Can somebody give me short explanation or a reference that explains the difference between a NIS+ group and the NIS+ group table. The standard reference book (Ramsey's All About Administering NIS+) doesn't make it clear.
The reason I need to know is that I have to create a group and use a specific GID when I create it. There doesn't seem to be any way to do that for NIS+ Groups. I've been able to successfully create entries in the group table, which allows specifying eth GID, but there isn't (as far as I can see) a direct correlation between those and NIS+ groups.
