A friend of mine has a Windows 98 Machine. He was complaining to me that he thought he had a virus because his machine was really slow.
I told him I'd look at it and found out he had NIS 2005 loaded on it.
Is NIS 2005 that big of a resource hog?

He doesn't have a virus, but I"m wondering if NIS is causing this.

Is NIS 2005 the only program installed? I tend to doubt it. Try disabling NIS and see whether it speeds up.

Still, though, could it have something to do with the fact that he's running an operating system that's seven years old? :D

Hanlon's Razor: Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

Yes, I told him that could be a reason. I uninstalled NIS 2005 and it didn't speed up dramatically. I eventually told him to get an up to date OS.

Thank for the response.
