I have a Dell inspiron 1400 laptop, win XP Home, 1Ghz, 256 Ram, it's about 18 months old.

I have a touchpad and then the small 'nipple' thing in the of keyboard. My problem is that I have the sensitivity of the nipple right up to the max and the touchpad disabled, but EVERY time I restart, the touchpad is somehow reenabled and the nipple sensitivity has gone to the middle.

I have to go into the mouse settings and click 'reset devices' to put everything back again.

It's really annoying, any ideas how to fix it??

Just for info., that 'nipple' thing is usually referred to as a J mouse [IBM ThinkPad uses them].

Have you checked the BIOS for a setting for both the J mouse and the touchpad?
