hi,
I have not tried but, if I was in your situation i' do:
- Elect a machine at nim server and install a fresh 5.1
- make a standard nim master installation
- try it installing a 5.1 client
- Create new LPP and SPOT naming LPP433 and SPT433
- try to install a 4.3 client.
(I have done it with 433 and 432)

You have to have the NIM MASTER at the Highest level of AIX that you plan on installing on your NIM clients.
With my AIX 5.2 NIM Server I can NIM load AIX 5.2 ; 5.1 ; and 4.3.3 to my clients.
But word of caution if you move up to 5.2, make sure you upgrade the Mainteance level of 5.2 because with the base install I was having trouble with the lower versions of AIX.
