We are updating our hardware configuration at our Hot Site
we are now running on a Regatta 670 box .. The question is do we need the NIM server to rebuild our operatiing system at our hot site. If we do not has any one restore the OS without the NIM ...

June54,

You do not need a NIM server if you can allocate a CD-Rom to one of the partitions (if partitioned) to reload AIX onto it, it will be a plain basic image without any of your data you will have to reconfigure the box as you need... If you want to move the image from another server you can make a mksysb and then clone it to the 670..

So no you do not need a NIM server to load the new server.

any questions let me know

Thanks for your quick response . So it would be much simpler and quicker if we had the NIM server at the Hot site ....

Yes, if you are not at the server then use NIM for your partitioned environment.

June54,

Yourwelcome, if you already have a NIM server setup definately use it!! It will save you the labor of having to reconfigure everything..

any problems just post it
