Nim install (VIOS) test ping failed

Hi,

I am trying to install VIOS via NIm but when I set up the IPL via SMS Menu and try the ping test it failed.
I have put the correct IP adresses, the names client and server nim are correct, the gateway is the one who use the server nim (not in the same subnet) but the ping failed.
Do you have any idea ?

Hi,

Regarding again all the network settings done on the nim server for the VIO( as I want to install new VIOS via NIM), I have asked again to the network team to check if they are connected to the good vlan and it seems they did wrong and fix it.
So now the test ping is success but after each time I netboot the client, it gets to 608 and keeps flashing.
The client definition is setup approriately, and the nim server is setup to the best of our ability. I have checked the flasshing 608 led error and it indicated the client is trying to get the client.info file in /tftpboot on the server. I have checked bootpd and tftpd are running on both client and server, checked the /etc/tftpaccess.ctl and the /tftpboot is set to allow.
Everything is well on my side but do you thing it could be another problem with the network config ?

That's what 608 error is

Attempting to retrieve the client.info file with tftp. Note that a flashing 608 indicates multiple attempt(s) to retrieve the client_info file are occurring.

Is there any thing that blocks the tftp in between the NIM server and the client?

Is it blocked from one of those two machines?

Did you try to use the tftp just to eliminate the communication problems with tftp?

Hi,

am I right when I assume this is the first machine in this vlan you want to install? Lets start with

lsnim -l master. Is there an interface if2 for the vlan? Is the name resolution of the master and the client in the vlan working?

If not, go through "smitty nim_mkmac_if", but put before a valid IP and hostname into /etc/hosts.

Thanks for your advises.

So the problem was my fault hou hou hou
After checking the file /etc/bootptab I see that the GW was wrong so I modify on nim the GW of the network that i used for the isntallation.
So the 608 message is related to a network issue.

So now my VIOS are installed !
