Hi tek-tippers

One of our customers is asking us if the password when logging into NIM via AD (Active Directory) is sent in plain text, or that if HTTPS / SSL can be implemented.

As far I know, former installations have been ever HTTP (non secure) and documentation about it is not found.

Ironically, another customer asked me about HTTPS with former Cybertech lines of products which in some cases replaced NPX, and they DO!

[it is found on the NTR Hardening guide]

Thanks for any hint.

How are System Users Authenticated? NICE Interaction Management vs.
Active Directory
System User Authentication is the process of identifying System Users who try to log in to NICE
Interaction Management applications. The NICE Interaction Management system must determine
the authenticity of the user login name.
The NICE Interaction Management system users can be configured to be authenticated in one of
two ways:
• NICE Interaction Management Authentication - Each system user is defined in the NICE
Interaction Management system by a unique login name. The user uses this login name, and
the password defined with it, to log in to the NICE Interaction Management system.
• Active Directory Authentication - NICE Interaction Management interfaces with Windows
Active Directory Authentication. Each system user is defined in the Active Directory at your
site by a unique Windows User Name and Domain. The user is then defined in NICE
Interaction Management with the exact same Windows User Name and Domain. NICE
Interaction Management uses the values in the Active Directory to authenticate each system
user. In this environment, you do not define an additional login name and password in NICE
Interaction Management, since the user’s actual Windows User Name and password defined in
the Active Directory are used to log in to NICE Interaction Management.
The link between NICE Interaction Management and the Active Directory is according to
Domain and Windows User Name. These must be unique for each user. (Duplicate
Windows User Names are allowed if they are in different domains.) Passwords are according
to the Active Directory.
A user, defined in NICE Interaction Management that is not in Active Directory, cannot log in
to NICE Interaction Management.
A user, defined in Active Directory and not in NICE Interaction Management, cannot log in to
NICE Interaction Management.

conclusion: Nice do support the secure connections.

Hope to tell you how it works, in the next weeks if thread is not autoclosed.

Configuring the SSL Connection
This procedure is applicable in Distributed, Unified, and Semi-Distributed systems.
Configuring the SSL connection enables you to log in to NICE Perform/NICE Interaction
Management using https. The procedure is required for Secure Client Communication. It is not
required for Media Encryption alone.
When configuring Secure Communication, use one of the following supported SSL protocols:
• SSL 2.0
• SSL 3.0
• TLS 1.0
If any one of the protocols is available on the IIS servers and clients, the others can be disabled. To
disable SSL protocols see MS Article ID: 187498.
NOTE: The above link is currently active, however, NICE is not responsible for maintaining
Microsoft links.

Configuring Secure Client Communication in the System Administrator
Standard IIS security does not provide security for.NET remoting communication between clients and servers whose services are not hosted by IIS.
NICE Perform provides the ability to add additionalSecurity Certificates for extra security.
Security Certificates must be purchased and installed by the user. For instructions on requesting and installing certificates, see the Digital Certificate Usage with NICE Perform Security Solutions Guide.
