I am trying to get my 8x24DS set up so that when I change the service mode to "Night," no sets will ring. In admin programming>Service Modes>Night>Show Line, I have removed the ringing set from each line. The display shows "no ringing sets." When I place the system in Night mode, lines 1 and 2 still ring at all extensions. All lines are loop-start, and all phones are programmed to ring on lines 1 and 2 in normal mode. Lines 3 and 4 are not programmed to ring on any phone, and indeed they do not ring in normal or night modes.

The night ringing service simply ADDS other extensions to the day ringing pattern. For instance, during the day all calls ring to ext221, the at night you want the calls to ring a security guard station. If you add the ext to the ring group then the security guard station would ring AS WELL AS the original ext221.

I think I've ever had a customer who doesn't want the phone to ring at all at night.

You might put an answering machine on an ATA and hard call forward one of the ringing phones to it at night. Then put a message on the answering machine saying that the business is closed and please call them during normal business hours.

Thanks for the help, MRoberts. Would I be able to accomplish what I want (a setting where NO phones ring) by doing the following:

- Program no phones to ring during Normal mode
- Program all phones to ring during Night mode
- Leave the system in Night mode most of the time, except when I want all ringing to cease
??

If this would work, are there any problems I might run into because the system is left in Night mode? (features that don't work in service modes, etc.)

FLASH PROGRAMMING:
Note: the greetings should be recorded and assigned to the table as you wish.
Feature 983 and log in. Go to AA then LINES. SHOW the line 001. Then press TABLE, then RINGS. Make sure each line is set to 0 rings.
Then go into Feature 982 and log in using OPERATOR as the password. ATTENDANT AVAILABLE: Y, BUSINESS OPEN: Y, ANSWER LINES: N, ATDT (none), change this to the attendant extension.
If you would like the Auto Attendant to pick up unanswered lines during the day you will need to set the DRT (delayed ring transfer) TO PRIME to YES and the PRIME SET to the first port of the voice mail as per the following instructions.
TELEPHONE SYSTEM PROGRAMMING:
TERMINALS & SETS
NEXT to SYSTEM PROGRAMMING, SHOW. Press NEXT to FEATURE SETTINGS, SHOW. Then press NEXT to DRT to PRIME. Set to (Y)es. Press NEXT and set the DRT Ring Delay.
Use your header button to back up to TERMINALS & SETS. Press NEXT to LINES, SHOW. Show line 001. TRUNK LINE DATA, SHOW. Press NEXT to PRIMESET: 221. Change the PRIMESET to be the first port of the voice mail. You will need to change the PRIMESET on each of the lines individually.
Now outside calls will ring the attendant’s phone. In the event that the attendant cannot pick up the call within the ring parameter set in DRT to prime, the AA will then answer the call. At night when the attendant leaves, they will press the previously programmed Night Service button and the lines will be answered immediately by the automated attendant

Yes, Zak69, you could do it that way and I don't know of any problem with keeping it in Night mode other than it will say Services On on the control phone.

Zak69, this might work for you depending on what the customer will work with for you. I was able to silence the ringing at night by only having one telephone ring during the day (along with an external ringer on the overhead paging) then made all lines appear only on the telephones, next I made the main telephone the primeset on the trunks with a DRT delay of 2. (we were trying to make sure that the answering position waited until the second ring for caller id before they answered) what was happening at night was that the voicemail answers immediately while the primeset is waiting for second ring. you could also use answer DN on the other phones to ring with ring only as the option. this would give you ringing off of the primeset on a delay. Thanks everyone! I think I'll stick an M7208 in the closet and use it as the control set, then leave the system in night when I want the phones to ring and return it to normal when I want quiet. (This system is in our home; sometimes we just want the darn things to be QUIET!) If I run into problems with this plan, you've given me some other options to try. I really appreciate the help!
