I support a Magix 2.1 system with night service setup to ring another extension when activated. If unanswered, then it goes to a Merlin Messaging Automated Attendant. The operator position is x600. The members of the night service group are x600 and x681.

If night service is activated and someone calls the DID number associated with x681, two things happen that are odd to me...

1.) The operator (600) also rings
2.) Unanswered calls to this DID are covered by the Automated Attenadant, not by mailbox 681.

However, if someone at another extension on the system dials 681, it covers to mailbox 681. How can I...

1.) Make 681 DID calls cover to mailbox 681 when night service is activated?
2.) Prevent 600 from ringing when DID calls are placed to 681?

From the Feature Reference:

A Direct Inward Dial (DID) call to any member of a Night Service group rings at all group members’
telephones

Is 600's mailbox pointed to the Auto Attendant?

What is the Group Coverage Rings setting for 600 and 681?

Does either extension have Primary or Secondary Coverage on another extension?

Thank you for the quote of the Feature Reference. I completely missed that statement!

I have come up with a workaround that has solved all of the issues they were having.

I removed 681 from the night service group. I had an open slot in the system, so I added a phantom 016 TRR in surrogate mode, then used a phantom extension from this phantom board as the new member of the night service group. Then I added a primary coveage button for the phantom extension to 681, with immediate ring.

Now 681's DID calls are not going to the group since 681 isn't a member of the group. Of course, her unanswered calls are going to her own mailbox now as well.

Additionally, she can now tell the difference between a DID call and a night service (COV) call, which was just a bonus!

why would you tie up a slot with a phamtom CP when you could
use an adjunct phamtom station????

Likewise, why would I tie up an adjunct when I could use a surrogate board?

Six of one, half a dozen of the other... does it really matter? ;)
