I had a PC with a PII 333, Win2k, a NIC and Road runner of a LinkSys hub.

So my girlfriend goes to college, and I say, "Hey! Great opportunity to upgrade, and give her my old one!"

So I get a PIII/733 and an Abit MB. It has a AMR/CNR? slot. Old NIC doesn't work. New NIC 2 doesn't work. Different NIC 3 doesn't work. All three NIC's work when dropped in a machine that doesn't have this stupid riser slot. Different MB, Soyo SY7IS2. Same three cards. don't work. Not with 98, or 2000. I had trouble getting another MB with the riser slot to work earlier this year (Jan) with a NIC, but it wasn't important, so I stopped.

Is there some sort of hardware conflict that won't let a NIC work on these things? I don't have a modem, have no intention of having a modem, and could care less if I did have a modem if it was PCI... Who was the idiot that came up with this?

Please help. I am at the end of my rope, and pretty soon will install Sledgehammer 1.0 if it doesn't work.

Update: Ran a Cat-5 crossover cable from the cable modem to the hub, straight through cables to the computers and all works now.
