Some of you might be interested in this users attempt to create a downloadable image of most of the popular anti-malware tools.

From the author:
"This is a new version of my SecurtyCD that I first posted here a while ago. It's designed so I can give it to my grandma and tell her "Put this in your CD ROM and follow the onscreen directions to remove viruses and spyware." This is my best attempt.

I have recommended this to several users, and they were quite pleased.

I haven't fully tested it yet, but my first impression is is an excellent tool for people who are not tech-savvy.

I think this will become a permanent part of my kit that goes everywhere I go, my 'bag of tricks' as I call it.

Actually, I'd be curious to hear what others consider an essential part of their 'bag of tricks'.

For instance, I always have on hand:
ERD Commander
An old DOS-version of Norton's Diskedit
A Win98 boot disk
Spybot, Adaware, and CWShredder
Several AV programs.
VNC
A copy of every MS Operating System and Office
Ultimate Boot Disk

...and many others

MCSE CCNA CCDA

Similar to a two CD set that I send out to our various branch locations. I use AutOption by Pollensoft to create the autorun menu and send out an "Applications" CD accompanied by a "Service Pack and Patches" disk. If anyone's interested, I can send a disabled front menu to let you see what they look like.

Additional tools you might want to consider using:

1. A VNC program (free - and they come in very handy when you need to look at and/or access a user's computer).

2. Ken Ward's Zipper program (Like WinZip with a better interface - and also free).

3. Some kind of PopUpStopper (Panicware or Google Toolbar are my personal preferences)

4. VoloView (Free from AutoDesk - if you have a user that needs to be able to view or redline AutoCad dwg files, but don't want to pay for a full license - or want the user to be able to actually change the dwg).

5. Space Monger 1.4 - (free - so you can see where all the space on the hard drive has disappeared to.

6. McAfee's Stinger tool - (free) to scan and clean the Top 40 in the virus world.

7. Some kind of defrag tool

I use many others, but most of them are more for the business environment (Symantec Raptor Enterprise, JetAdmin Tools, McAfee Enterprise, etc.). What's really funny is that I created and was sending these CDs out for two years before my boss first saw one. "Wow, I had no idea you guys were making these!" was his comment.

It makes managing remote locations SO much easier!

jbrackett, I wasn't aware that Volo View was free. Can you provide a reference?

smah,

Sorry. I should have specified VoloView Express. You get used to calling something by one name . . . :)
