nic problem on V440

We had a network outage recently and once everything came back on I found the nics on 3 V440s appeared to be dead, no lights flickering.

After a powercycle and reboot they came back on. But what is strange is if I disconnect and reconnect the network cable the nics die again and I have to reboot.

This happens only on these three servers which are used as Netbackup servers. We have other V440s which do not exhibit this behaviour.

Any ideas on what to check ?

What kind of switch are they connected to? Are they configured to autonegotiate, or are their speeds and duplex forced? If so, to what settings... and do the switch ports match?

They're connected to a Cisco switch, both ends set to auto, and they are negotiating to 1000/full.

What did you mean by "do the switch ports match" ?

I meant that if you had forced the settings on the NICs, had you forced the switch ports to the same settings.

I think both being set to auto is best for 1000Mbit, but you could try forcing both ends to 1000/full and see if that behaviour stops?
