Hello,

I have replaced an existing NIC ( which was an ISA Model) in my SCO Box ( Sys V - 3.2.4.2) with a 3COM ( Model 3C905-TXM)PCI. I have been able to get the Unix Driver, which is the 3eH. After installation, configuration and re-linking the kernel, i cannot start the TCP/IP and get the following error messages below; ping also is not working!

*******************************
Starting TCP/IP: cpd 3C59x unit 0: ERROR: Adapter failed startup tests
slink: Function "cenetb", command 1: open "/dev/e3H0": Out of stream resources
slink ldsocket ifconfig: ioctl ( SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface
strerr syslogd inetd routed
*******************************

Before inserting the 3Com NIC i have it checked in a Win machine and could obtain 100 Mbit. So the card is working fine.

Does anybody have an idea what could be going wrong here?

Also, it's worth mentioning, I checked at netstat -m with the old card and the result is below;

Any help is most appreciated.

Thank you

SCO 4.2 is a very old stuff :(
1) First check the driver properly recognize the NIC:
[tt]hwconfig -h[/tt]
if this command don't work, take a look at the bottom of [tt]/usr/adm/messages[/tt] for la line like this:
%e3H 0x1400-0x147F 10 - 3Com 3C90x, unit=0
2) If no problem you may consider increase the stream resources:
The NSTREAM value will impact the Class* values.
You have to increase the NSTRPAGES value too
[tt]man configure[/tt]
Sorry, I don't remember the exact procedure for 4.2

Hope This Help, PH.

Hi PHV,

I checked at the hwconfig -h and i obtained a list of hardware and configs. I could notice the e3H0 driver too but i dont know why it appears twice.

Then in the /usr/adm/messages, there is an error line stating that cannot load e3H0.

You are right in saying that SCO 4.2 is very old stuff. I agree. But i have installed Open server too, running in parallel in our of our sister company, and what a headache the guys have. SCO Sys V is much stable and currently i have 89 users working concurrently ( TCP/IP and Serial- Specialix Xi/XIO) on the system during office work. As long as the system hold and is table, applications are working fine, we are getting what we need, why spending more bucks ? Isn't it ?

Thanks for your help PHV.
Regards.
Salim

I suggest you to remove the 2 definitions of the NIC card with netconfig sysadmsh (?), reboot the system and then configure hopefully a single NIC
