Hi all,

Having to rebuild a server after drives failed. OS installed was Netware 5 (upgrade). Since the license disk did not work when installing 5 first i have started installing their previous OS (4.11). I'm running into a problem. I have tried a 3com 3c980tx and linksys lne100tx NICs. Drivers downloaded and placed on a floppy. I get an error after trying to continue and it says there is no network card in the slot.

Dell server poweredge 1300 card in slot 1. I tried placing slot as 1, 6, 10001 but nothing. From what i have found i might need to manually load the files from SP9 prior to continuing but cannot get the files to extract.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

Thanks

Usually if you don' tknow the slot number, you can give it a bogus slot number.. When you do this, it will tell you it's wrong and then offer you some suggestions based on what it detects. Hopefully it detects something.

I saw your other post, and don't quite understand... So what if it's an upgrade, that doesn't mean you have to install Netware 4.11 first.. It just means that the licenses were 'upgrade' from previous versions. You can go ahead and install NetWare 5, then install the licenses and you should be fine. If anything, install without licenses first, then add them in later. No big deal.

A license is a license is a license, regardless of if it's upgrade or full version.

When i tried installing the license after installing 5.0 it said there was no license info on the floppy which is what threw me off. I thought you had to install the previous version. I haven't worked on netware 4 or 5 in a long time and trying to remember some of these steps.

When you install 5.0 you need to mount the CDROM drive correct?

Thanks for the help and quick response.

If you have the license file, you can put it on the floppy and install it at that point during the setup. You may or may not have an option to skip the license.. I can't remember, and it seeems like it varied depending on the media you use.

The CDROM should automatically mount at the start of the install.

I don't know what happened yesterday with the floppy but worked today. Entered the activation and everything was fine. Mounted the CD and starting install of backup software.

Thanks
