I'm a PC guy, but we have one Macintosh G4 running OS X in our shop. I want to get a gigabit NIC for it, but I'm not finding much information on compatibility.

If I buy a normal PCI gigabit NIC like I usually get for a PC (such as a 3com), is it going to work in the Mac?

I haven't found Mac drivers on manufacturers' websites (3com, linksys, etc.) I assume this means that Macs either aren't supported, or will run the cards natively, without OEM drivers.

If anyone can help clear this up for me, I would appreciate it. Thx.

1) G4 Mac towers made after July 2000 are already have gigabit ethernet

2) Realtek has Mac drivers for NICs made with their 8169 or 8110 chipsets These cards are usually under $20

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
