have a Dell dimension 2400, P4, every morning when we turn it on, it won't connect to local net or internet, i have SFC /scannow and chkdsk, just for the heck of it gave it a differnt Ip address. The only thing that makes it come back to life is to uninstall the NIC, reboot and reinstall it. No errors on boot up and nothig in the event viewer.
Any suggestions?

Try deleting the nic from the device manager from the control panel (system applet). After you remove it, do a scan for hardware changes. It should find it and reinstall the driver. IF that doesn't work, I would shut down the pc, pull out the NIC, if it's an add in card, and restart the computer. Does that work? If not, then from the command prompt type: ping 127.0.0.1 -t. Let it run for 30 minutes or so. Does it get any timeouts? If so, I would then suspect the NIC is having problems and may need to be replaced.

I guess the NIC is the one on the motherboard. Do you have any I/O cards installed in the machine? If yes can you try installing them at a different slot? It will reshuffle the assigned interrupts and the drivers may work okay in a different configuration.
