I'm having a problem accessing an NFS mounted file system from a custom written application written in Basis. I can access the NFS share without any problems from the server itself, but when I try to access it from the application, I get this error...

error=16 (tcb(10)=-37)

Someone from a Basis newsgroup told me the following, but couldn't help beyond that.

"The tcb(10)=-37 indicates no record locks available. NFS has several types of locking options depending on how the mount is performed. Check the nfs mount to determine what type you are using, as this is where the error comes from."

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Try mounting it with the 'nolock' option. That's my best suggestion. Don't know what locking options it's talking about.

Thanks, that worked. Do you know what the 'nolock' option in fstab does exactly?

It disables the need for locking. I'm not a programmer so I don't know exactly how to use locking.

Well thanks anyway. Can anybody explain how file locking works to me?

Thanks.
