That is exactly it. I have tried varying methods of remote mksysb restoration without success. I tend to use Network Installation Manager for this as it sorts out the network boot and just installs the image.
You can try to dd to a tape and the restoring from system backup option after booting from the AIX cd's but it has never worked for me.
