NFS Server Problems

I have a SuSE 10.3 that I am using as a NFS server and I connect my other SuSE 10.3 machines to it. I can not see files larger than 2GB. I specified NFSv3 in /etc/fstab but that did not solve my problem. I recently upgraded my systems to 10.3 so I'm wondering if something changed with 10.3 since prior to the upgrade everything worked fine.

Server exports:
/files suse(async,secure,no_root_squash,rw)

Client fstab:
nfssrvr:/files /files nfs rsize=32768,wsize=32768,rw,nfsvers=3,auto 0 0

Also, since I upgraded to 10.3 my NFS mounts are no longer auto mounted at start up.

32 bit Suse option? I would expect that to be the result 2 to the power of 31.

If your server or clients are 32 bit as opposed to 64 bit, they can only address a positive integer of (2^31) - 1 or approximately 2 GB. Since positive integers are used to reference the number of bytes in a file, or to seek around in the file using pointers, etc., you are limited to the size of 2GB for the max file size.

I would agree with you except that I was not having this problem when I ran SuSE 10.1. I upgraded to 10.3 only 2 weeks ago and that is when the problems started.

I am using the default SuSE 10.3 kernel that has LFS enabled. I have not problem accessing the files locally on the NFS server but I can not access them from my NFS clients.

I am pretty sure that the NFS clients need LFS available or they won't be able to deal with the file size.

OK, I figured out my problem and I must say I'm a little embarrassed! I was using the 'User Space NFS Server' instead of the 'Kernel-Server'. As soon as I installed the 'NFS Kernel Server' everything started working just fine.
