Help,
I have been trying to mount a directory from one RedHat 7.3 box to another RedHat 7.3 box. I keep getting permission denied by the server when I try and mount the directory /home/finance/cdshare on the client's side. I have set the exports file on the server side to the correct values but I get a wierd display of the showmount command. When I enter "showmount -e <server>" I get the correct exports (includeing the client). However, when I enter "showmount -a <server>" All the expected mounts show EXCEPT the desired client. I have all the proper daemons running on both sides. Please help, I can think of no reason for this problem. I also checked the /var/log/message on the server side and it said: "request refused: DNS forward lookup doesn't match with reverse"

Thanks for ANY help

you know, I have this really great tutorial some place for getting NFS up and running, plus troubleshooting, and now I can't find it.

can you post /etc/exports and the results of the showmount commands? Also, are both servers in the hosts files, or do you have dns set up properly? Also, if the filesystem isn't mounted, it won't show up in showmount -a

"request refused: DNS forward lookup doesn't match with reverse" --> check your reverse lookup zone. Make sure the PTR records are correct.

Thanks for all the help. I fixed it, the eth0 driver had it's permissions set to 600 so I changed it to 644 and it worked.
