Hi Gurus,
We have some NFS issue these days.
We export one FS to our particular machine(tpcwx301) which is running windows2003 and using Active Directory.
Somehow when we move the unix box and using another cable, the NFS client always been prompted for username/password.
I have to export the File System to everybody , then it works. Both machine can ping each other.
That is strange. Anybody has ideas?

Thanks,
Denny

hmmm

I think it is something to do with cache creditials (on windows) that has been changed when you moved the AIX box!!!

did you change the IP address of the machine? is it on a different subnet for now?

have you tried to restart the nfsd and inetd daemons? have you tried to restart the windows machine?

I would have done the above if i were you :)

waiting your feedback

Regards,
Khalid

Thanks Khalid,
We did not change anything on UNIX side. The only thing i have not done is to restart the windows server.
And also I do "nslookup". See below.
> tpcwx301
Server: ns3.intl.com
Address: 192.168.100.1

Name: tpcwx301.intl.com
Address: 172.16.51.52

> 172.16.51.52
Server: ns3.intl.com
Address: 192.168.100.1

Name: tpcwx301.lii01.livun.com
Address: 172.16.51.52

Cause for name lookup and IP_address lookup, it returns two different entry. I believe that why mount request been denied by unix server.

Thanks,
Denny

Hi cpu533,

If this nslookup was done on the windows server then you don't have to restart Windows server

just try this command:

go to the command prompt (Run-->type cmd)

then type-->
Code:
ipconfig /flushdns

This will refresh the dns cache on the windows machine with the correct address of the Unix box.

I hope this will work :)

Khalid

Either your reverse DNS is crooked and you need to get that fixed, or there is a reason the AIX server gets a different FQDN form this reverse lookup and if so, you need to export the dir on the AIX server to both FQDNs of your WIN box.

NFS does a reverse DNS lookup on the mount request's originating IP and then decides if the mount/access can be granted based on the name it resolves to.

Thanks for all reply.
After network people fix the problem, the Windows server can mount the F.S.

Thanks again.
Denny

Name resolutinon issue.
Remember I mentioned before, ipaddress and hostname lookup returns different entry. Now returns same entry.

Thanks,
Denny
