I have recently passed my Net + exam. I was wondering what would be the best exam to take next. The A+ or go for my MCP with the XP exam, and what would be the best study materials for both exams?
That kind of depends on you - are you working already? Are you looking for a job?
I have never bothered to get A+ because of the cost at about $300 and it basicly tells someone that you have 6-9 months experience repairing PCs, I have 12 years on the job
If you are trying to get into a place, it might be helpful to be A+ or it might be requirred for a tech job! I know some places will not hire entry level without A+.
As for MPC for XP, do you currently support XP or are you trying to get a job that supports XP? Do you intend to go further for the MCSA or MCSE?
As for study material I always have liked the CompTIA books by Mike Meyers and the CBT Nuggets -
As far as MCP you might want to ask about study material in the Microsoft Certification forum here at Tek-Tips!
You said that you just passed your Network +, if you have any intention to go further in networking I would suggest you get your CCNA!
Again, it depends on the job you are trying to get, what are they looking for or what in general are the jobs for that type position in your area asking for as far as experience and certs?
Nice post CiscoG! I would definitely agree. Especially in regard to following the Net+ up with the CCNA! That will open a plethora of specialized areas in networking and will allow you to pursue the direction that most interests you.
I agree with CiscoGuy, you need to decide where you want to go with your career, it's no good getting all these qualifications if you're not going to be doing the work, you soon forget what you learn if you're not doing it everyday.
One bit of advice I would give is don't get over qualified too soon, I have interviewed people who have had a multitude of certifications, unfortunately they had no real world experience and as such weren't any good to me.

The real world is not about exam scores, it's about ability.
