Next release of magix

OK Everyone, lets put on our thinking caps (I know, thinking can be painful, but you can endure it for a few minutes) Lets all think about what kinds of changes that we think should be made for Magix Release 6 (I bet avaya has already started working on 5) With any luck, Avaya may just meddle into this thread and get a hint.

A few ideas of mine:
1. Simpler to use QCC console, with programable features.
2. A tutorial feature on each user's phone, that can walk him/her through how to use basic features.
3. Put the cool vacuum displays on all of the other TDL sets, like the one on the 4424LD
4. Use the Definity/Classic Merlin ring tones, I do not care for the MLX/TDL rings.
5. Let us use the ATL cards again.
6. Allow us to get Number AND Name through PRI.

6 line conferencing would be nice ( 6 outside lines ).
You can only conference 2 outside lines, and 3 internal extensions, with Legend/Magix
If I remeber right, old spirit system You could conference up to 3 outside lines, also on COMKEY 416, I remember conferencing all 4 lines.
Bright vacum display sets would be nice, on all TDL phones. Why not backlit LCD like on partner euro phones? Also a 10 button TDL phone would be nice, but being the same size as a 4406 ( 6 button ).

First off, I have my doubts that they will even go beyond R4.0, maybe 4.1 if 4.0 has significant problems. (Which so far, I haven't seen any) I think (MY PERSONAL OPINION) we have gotten to then end of the MAGIX DEVELOPMENT CYCLE.
(Heck, evey one wants to jump on the VOIP Train now.)

Item 2) A user guide is provided now, it's a little fold out book. When I train on these systems, I hand out a "boiled down" version of that out and point out to the students where the info came from (in the little fold out book).

Item 3) You can put 48 of those 4424-LD+ phones in the system now. How many do you need? AND, will your customer pay for them.

I know they say you can only put 48 on there, but I wonder, since they are externally powered, could you really put more.

Have you ever tried it, or had a customer with more than 48?

I'd almost be willing to bet that you could put more on.

Item 5) WHY? - ATL Sets are dying off all over the place.

They long ago reached the end of their "GIVEN" Life Cycle, and are now getting close to their "REAL WORLD" Life Cycle.

I do know about the fold out user booklets, but I still get calls asking 'How do I do this? User training just seems like a time for them to toss paper airplanes around the room. A tutorial feature would keep them off my, and everyone elses back. Most of the systems Ive dealt with only have a few 4424LD's, the only problem with them is that they are pricey, and that they are very bulky phones. I still see a ton of ATLs around. Plugged into Merlin IIs, and Legends.

I wish they would make the 4424LD+ work on the IP Office. A lot of people have a hard time going from a TDM type console to a full-blown PC console. I consider a console to be a 4424LD+ or a 302D, not a 4412 or 6424.

Just my two cents... which from USD to CDND works out to 3)beers 2)canoes and 1) flying squirl.

I just wish the 44XX sets would automatically come with the telephone stands, like the ATL's or MLX sets. A customer with a new Magix System 3.0, ordered 50 sets, combination of 4424's, 4412's and 4406's. When I was on site for the implementation, he inquired why we had not put the stands on the phones. I told him they were sold separate. He said it was like selling him a new car without the tires.

The people who I deal with always include the stands in the cost of the phones, and if you dont want em, then the phones can be had, sans the stands. But yes, the should indeed make them standard. OH, and one pesky little thing to add to the improvement list. On ALL avaya phones, when wall mounted, are not inclined at all, which makes it a real pain to use the phone when wall mounted. Avaya should make it so that you can make the BOTTOMs of the phones tilt out when wall mounted WITH OUT RIGGING THE PHONE. Take a look at a wall mounted Nortel phone, and you will see what I mean.

For my 2 cents, I'd like them to add the Definity's TTI feature. It would certainly make moving phones around alot easier, escpecially when done in large numbers.

Something that has always bothered me about the Magix is the connection speed…why does the modem only connect at 2400 baud? They should also put a Ethernet NIC on the processor so you can telnet to it for administration.
