Newsletter Layout Questions 1

Hey,

I am working on my first newsletter in inDesign using a 3 column layout on 8.5x11 paper. From everyone's experience, should the text in each column line up across columns? Rignt now, I am not experiencing that when I have an article carry over to the next column as either I have an article title on the first column that makes the body text not align or I have an inline text box or graphic that also changes the spacing.

Also, does anyone have good font combos they have used in the past for body/title text?

...rules for this not really set in concrete, but if you want all text lines to line up then you need to use baseline grids:

...the answer to this one largely depends on what type of artwork you are creating, sans-serif fonts for a modern look, serif for a more traditional feel. Modern could also include a mixture of both (serif for headings, sans-serif for body copy)...

...whatever you choose, it is best to not use more than two or three font families at the most for typesetting...

...font choice is also very subjective, as is much to do with artwork...

...font combos are usually created by using one font family, for modern ITC Avant Garde Gothic Std is a particular favourite of mine, another is Chaparral Pro...

...more traditional would be Adobe Caslon family for me...
