Hi

Does any one knows how to send an html or plain text newsletter depending on if end user's e-mail client support html format.

For example , end user A using html enabled client, he would receive html format. If not he would receive plain text format. Is there any way that I can do?

Thanks in Advance,

There is probably a way of making your newsletter check to see whether the client has html support or not by using a java script... but I dont know of any codes or scripts that can do this.

However, what you could do is (depending on how many clients you'll be sending newsletters out to) is to email all your clients and ask them to specify whether they want to receive the newsletter in html or text format... this way is a little more time consuming, but at least you know that your client will be able to read the newsletter :)

Hi mate,

I know that you can send both formats together but I do not at present have a clue how to do it..

I run my own mail server so I have access to the original messages before they are parsed by the browser..

This is a sample of some of the messages that I have received.

******************************************
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

TEXT CONTENT IS HERE

Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

HTML CONTENT IS HERE
******************************************

Now, when this message is passed onto the email client, it reads the appropriate content type and displays either the html or text.

I am going to try to find out how this is done..

I will let you know..

Hope this helps Wullie

Hi adamjones81,

I guessed many email clients doesnt support JavaScript ( due to security reason ). So we cant write any server side or client side scripting language to use in Newsletter!

Is there any other way mate ?

Hi wullie,

Yes you are right! If you specify the text/plain, it would be normal text in e-mail client. But How do I know if email - client support html format, so I can send 'groovy' newsletter to them. Others receive plain text.

Thanks for your Help mate!
