Hi,
How can I sign-up and search for newsgroups in Outlook (Win98)?

I have an address of a newsgroup I'd like to sign-up with, but I don't know the steps to take.

I searched for help within Outlook, but had to luck finding the "newsgroups" button in the folder list (there wasn't a "newsgroups" button).

Also, how can I search for newsgroups within Outlook Express?

Thanks so much,
Jenny

Jenny, this article may answer some of your questions:

(The above link is to Microsoft article Q195879 - Installing and using the Outlook newsreader.)

The first thing you need is the address of the news server you can access from your ISP. If you don't know the address contact your ISP and ask them. Microsoft has a generic news group server but I don't recall the address. I post it after I get home and can look it up for you.

OK, I remembered today!! Here are the addresses for Microsofts newsboards:
msnnews.msn.com
netnews.msn.com

Hi,
I just want to make sure I’m going through the right procedure to sign up for Newsgroups.

Outlook Express…
[tt]
Tools  Accounts  News (Tab)  Add  News  Display Name (text entry)  Email Address (text entry) 
[/tt]
If I’m on the right track then here’s where I get confused…

Outlook Express writes…
[tt]
 Type the name of the internet news server (NNTP) your internet provider has given you.
News NNTP server: (text entry)

If your internet service provider has informed you that you must log onto your news (NNTP) server and has provided you with an NNTP account name and password, then select the check box below.

{check box} My news server requires me to log on?
[/tt]
Is the above necessary?

Mrcoons gave me the following…
msnnews.msn.com
netnews.msn.com

Can I just enter these in the News NNTP server: (text entry) field?

Am I on the right track?

Also, can I trade files in newsgroups or is it just message writing?

Thanks,
Jenny
