Is there a shareware/freeware product similar to CuteNews (cutephp.com) that can be used with Cold Fusion? I would like to add a page to a CF site that can allow a user to add text/news content without worrying about formatting and stuff.

Not that I've seen, but I'm sure you could replicate the functionality that you need very very easy.

I mean, do you really need all the settings and templates and functionality that is only there to try to make the script all things to all people? Doubtful, so pick out the functionality that you need and build it!

If you are mainly talking about the text area rich text editor, I would highly recommend tinyMCE from moxieCode.com - It's javascript, fast, and lightweight, and configurable.

I second Kevin's suggestion; you're (much) better off building it from scratch. I perosoanlly don't use 3rd party applications (unless I have no choice) cause of the added bulk.

I don't envision developing a news management system as too complilcated. I imagine you to develop a table (or two) to store: UID, news item subject, news item body, hide (in case the admin needs to disable the news from public view), timedatestamp, approval (in case there's an approval news item feature), etc.

The textarea (for formatting) you can use what Kevin suggested like TinyMCE - i've used that and it works great, very customizable and easy to implement.
