Has anyone heard any news about what Nortel is doing?

If someone did know more than the news feeds, it would insider info and they couldn't tell us. But here is the latest:

There was also some talk here: thread798-1541802

Yes, that is a cool site. Did you see this recent wire:

News said:
Nokia Looking to Tap $2B Credit Facility

By Mark Evans | April 24, 2009

From the interesting file, NokiaSiemens Networks - the company apparently interested in buying Nortel’s wireless assets - is looking to get a three-year, $1.98-billion revolving credit facility.

The proceeds will be used to refinance “certain bilateral facilities” and for general corporate purposes.

I suppose it could be for anything, but it is interesting

insider information is only a problem IF your using it to buy or sell blocks of stock.. anyone that is buying nortel stock right now needs medical help..

when nortel spun off there production, training and distrubition divisions.. they screwed up.. they decided they would be a software only company.. ie cisco.. so now they are in the dumpster with cisco..

then nortel needed a voip/network partner so they got in bed with wellfleet.. duh... another great choice.. cisco and nortel would have been a major player

Insider information is simply information that has not been released to the public.

Insider "trading" is what you are defining.

Nobody is trading Nortel stock, but they might trade on the buyers stock. Generally, you would short the stock of the buying company right before they announce.

It's a bigger world than you think.

when you short, your betting the stock will crash.. can it go lower?

Let's say "CSCO" wants to buy Nortel, but the news has not been released. People inside Nortel know it, and people inside Cisco know it. They have insider info.

You can be sure CSCO will drop the day after the acquisition is announced.

If you shorted CSCO based on your 'certain' knowledge that they were buying Nortel, you made money and you participated in insider trading.

Hey you can still buy the stock, I did. I got it a little over a month ago @ .08 and sold it @ .14 about 2 weeks later. I should have kept it 1 more week because it went as high as .30. Guess that's why I work on phones and not play the market for a living.

What's the latest? I heard that there may be an announcement this week? DO we need to sign into the definity forum yet????

It's not getting any smarter out there. You have to come to terms with stupidity, and make it work for you.

You never know what name would take over :)

Trivia:

K-Mart bought Sears, not the other way around.

SBC bought AT&T, not the other way around.

Where I work we have been hiring a few of the Nortel folks. I have always thought the best about Nortel but the way they are treating the people that are still left sounds horrible to me. I hate listening to them to be honest.

They are saying there is another big wave of layoffs this week.
