I am trying to learn COM for application development and would like to know where I might be able to find information on what it is and how to go about using it. I am particularly interested in how to use it in conjunction with ASP. If anyone can point me in a direction, I would be most grateful. Thanks!

Hi,
As a fellow newbie to COM (using VC++)

I would recommend ( if I am allowed :))
some books from WROX
Beginning ATL Programming
Professional COM using ATL
Both extremly useful,

MSDN is has some excellent stuff (search for "Dr GUI on com")

This forum is also a good bet!

hope this helps

Matt

Thanks, Matt. I'm using VB and have been searching thru the web looking for things that might help. Think I've gotten some good ideas (MSDN was pretty useful as well) and a better general idea of what COM is. Now to start practising with a couple of small .dll's and see if I can get something going...

Chopstik,

My fualt, I guess I *assumed* (makes ans ass out of u and me!!) you where using VC++ not VB.
The books i recommended were far more aimed at VC++,

however, nearly all VB books aimed at people doing MCSD (especially developing Desktoip Apps using VB) do a lot odf basic COM stuff co COM is tested hard in that exam...

good luck

Matt
