I have 3.4GHz computer with Windows Prof with Service Pack 2. I want to learn Java and Websphere with my new computer.I have downloaded the trial copy of WebSphere Studio Application/Site Developer Version 5.1.2 and DB2 Universal Database for Windows. I have installed Java Web start on my computer. Do I need to install J2SE or/and J2EE ? Do I need install Application Server ? What other software do I need ? What steps should I follow to successfully install Websphere and DB2.

I don't know about the trial version of WSAD (WebSphere Studio Application Developer), but the full version includes all the stuff you need to develop in Java, especially for J2EE applications designed for WebSphere.

And just to learn Java and WebSphere, I don't think you will need the DB2 Universal Database. Heck, you probably don't need such a fast machine either - I only have a 1.8 GHz with 1 GB RAM (memory is VERY important for WSAD - even I have to exit WSAD 2 times a day to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Good luck, and have fun - WSAD is built on Eclipse (which means it wants to block out the Sun ;-) It should be all you need as far as a development platform. You should also find a good book to give you a head start.
