help

Some idot change the datatype of one of my columns in a table.

the result is that it has lost all information after 50 charcters.

I have changed the column properties back but is there any way to regain the informaion i lost

no backup

Is there anything i can do with the transaction log

If you have no backup then I'm afraid the answer is no! The only way would be to purchase some third-party software that can recover from the log. I think Lumigent has a product that can do this.

James is correct ... W/ NO Backup, your out of luck and but if you still have the TLog, Lumigent Log Explorer can recover the data for you.

Thanks

Once you have done this, I believe your very first step afterward will be to set up a backup procedure. Don;t forget to backup the transaction logs or they will grow to take up your whole hard drive.

Next you need to address the who changed the field size problem. Not necessarily to identify the culprit, but to make sure that everyone with access to the database knows the consequences of making chnges and what problem this caused in this particular case. Speaking of which, since you don't know who did it, I assume that perhaps your permissions need to be tightened up. No one except a developer and a dba should have permissions to change the structure of a database table. And no developers should have permissions to change the structure of a production database, they should only be allowed to work in development and test databases. And you might consider changing your sa password immediately (and not letting anyone who is not a dba have it!), just in case it has gotten inthe wrong hands.
