Newbie to Projects: Parameters in Views/Queries 1

Guys,

I had a .mde app that used a number of queries with parameters.
E.G. Critera of reference number was:

[Please enter in the reference number]

However I am now re-creating the app on SQL server and using a .adp file. I can't seem to use the parameters anymore.
Why is this? Is there some sort of syntax change for these sort of things (I know that it now uses MS T-SQL instead of Jet, but just assumed that parameters would be OK.)

Any help appreciated.
