hi there,

i want to start learning java. i went to the javasoft site to download it but got confused about what i need - from a development point of view - to download..
i will be using windows nt 4.0 on a pretty old laptop and can't figure out if what i need to develop java apps is : JRE, SDK, JDK???

Any help is greatly appreciated!

For development, you need the SDK. Generically it's called a JDK (Java Development Kit, I think).

The SDK contains a copy of the JRE, which is what you put on another PC to run your application.

Hope this helps!
