Hi all,

Does anyone know where I can see any starting documentation for this? I'm actually a DBA for the back-end of a BO implementation but I'm going to be tasked with creating/altering reports, and just wanted a user or admin guide that gets me up to speed asap.

Cheers,

Jim

'Crystal for Dummies' is pretty useful.

Also most people learn Crystal by writing it, maybe writing test reports to see what works. But without a guide, you may waste time re-creating in code something that Crystal would do for you. (DateAdd, DatePart and DateDiff in particular.)

Also, BO is much more than just Crystal. You'll need to determine which of the tools available in BO your employer is using. You can build various types of reports in Web Intelligence (WebI), Desktop Intelligence (DeskI), visualizations in Xcelsius, dashboards with Dashboard Builder. There are also other features such as Voyager for viewing OLAP cubes that you may or may not have installed. Many of these tools require that you build one or more Universes - which is a meta data layer between the database and the reports. While many of these tools are fairly easy to learn, I highly recommend at least doing the online training if you're going to help develop universes as there are a number of "gotchas" that you have to be aware of.

If you have Crystal questions, this is the place to ask them. If you have questions about the other tools, you'll get a better response by asking them in the Business Objects solutions forum here.
