I'm new to doing exchange backups/restore with Arcserve so my knowledge is limited...

- Running Arc2000 AE and backing up Exc5.5 server on WinNT in our main office.

-Currently backing up DS/IS as well a brick level mailboxes.

I have another exchange server offsite(same Windows domain, same org/site but diff. computer name) running Arc2000 AE in our DR location.

My question is:
-Should a disaster happen, how would I do an effective restore of my users mailboxes to this offsite server with the tape from the main office? I'm not sure if the info-store can be restored to a different server...

Any info/insight is greatly appreciated.

Steps for Disaster Recovery of Exchange Server, when the server is rebuilt ( Info store only)

1. Exchange server should have the same name of Site & Organisation ( case sensitive ), as it was when the backup was done.
2. Exchange Server need not be the same.
3. Install Exchange 5.5
4. Apply existing service pack for Exchange.( same service pack as it was when the server crashed)
5. Install Exchange agent. (Follow the document --
6. Stop all Exchange services.( except System Attendant).
7. Rename the folders mdbdata/dsadata in all the drives. Create two new empty mdbdata / dsadata folders in the exchange server folder.
8. Restore by session (Information Store).
9. if the optimizer was not run during installation.
In restore/destination tab de-select restore to original location, Drill down to the Exchange server and the Exchange agent.

10.If the Database and Transaction logs are in different partitions, (say, the optimizer is run), then restore to original location.
11. Submit the domain security.
12. Run the job.

Hope it help
