HI, All I have a question or two and i want some of your opinions....I want to get my A+ Certification and I am limited for resources. Can a person buy the a+ book and study it and pass the exam...If so what books do you all recommend....do i need to have some old computers to work on for lab experience....Any ideas on how to get this on my own i gladly will accept...also have any of you taken any online courses that were fairly cheap and good ..???

THANKS IN ADVANCE

boomer32,

Your results may vary, but I used the All-In-One book, purchased online, and passed both A+ tests the first time out. The only real need you'll have for a computer (if you have enough experience) is to take the practice tests.

boomer32,

The book I used, A+ Certification All-In-One Exam Guide, Fifth Edition, was written by Michael Meyers and Scott Jernigan. The cover price is $59.99, but I was able to find it online for about 1/2 off.

boomer32,
I bought the A+ for dummies book, plus the Mike Meyers Pasport book and passed both on the first try, and in a quick amount of time. However, you can also go to and take their online tests, plus both books forementioned have CD's with practice questions on them. Focus hard on the NT environment, because I saw alot of questions on that in the OS portion. Also in the hardware section, familiarize yourself with where everything is on the motherboard the drawings on the exam are horrible.

boomer32,

While we're at it, the full price of the A+ exams is $290 (or was a few months ago). There is no reason at all to pay that much.

Since I hadn't taken a class, I couldn't get discount vouchers from a school, but I was able to get discount vouchers from Total Seminars (
The practice tests included with the book are good for practice, but didn't really line up with the way the actual exam questions are worded. I ordered a CD with 1100 practice questions from Total Seminars, which came with discount vouchers, for a total of around $210 (including shipping for the CD). The CD arrived in the mail after I'd already passed, so I never took any of the practice tests on the CD I ordered, but it saved me $80 on the cost of the exams.

Just FYI.
