I currently have a windows 2000 domain with. The IP of this network is 192.168.10.xx. the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 the default gateway is 192.168.10.3. I was given the task of adding a new window 2003 server DC to this network, that means I will have to subnet the network. I have changed the new windows 2003 DC to 192. 168.10.xx. the subnet mask will be 255.255.240.0. I now see two domains on the network, however after joining the new domain with a few computer when I perform a ipconfig /all I still see that the new PCs are pointing to the old dns server and the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, instead of 255.255.240.0. How would I get these computers to point to the new dns server? And is there a way to change the ip scheme to 192.168.40.xx?

Thank in advance,

This is a confusing question. However, to answer the one question I did understand (How would I get these computers to point to the new dns server?)...

You must change your DHCP scope. Whether it be on the old server, or you have DHCP enable now on the new server, the scope needs to be reconfigured to point to the new addresses.

Hope This Helps,

Good Luck!

(I do what I can with what I know)

After changing the DHCP server scope on any problem clients;

ipconfig /release *
ipconfig /renew *

That'll refresh the ips.

Why did you have to divide your network up just because of a new DC?

I'm with Davetoo, why the need for a new domain? Also, out of curiousity, why a /28 mask (just curious, I like to know what other companies are doing that's all)?

nevermind my previous post about the /28 network...it would be nice if I actually thought about what I was saying before I posted it...move a long, nothing left to see here, move along...

I thought i recognized the sig Davetoo, what happened to lander215?

Sorry to jump in on the thread there.

When you are the IT director, it's your job to make sure the IT works. If it does work they know already and if it doesn't, they don't want to hear your pathetic excuses.
