When installing an OS on a server with RAID, is the RAID drivers and whatever else needed to install to make it work part of the OS?

Most newer raid drivers are not included with the OS install CD,fairly old drivers are. When an Os such as Win200x is installed, pressing F6 allows one to install the needed drivers for the OS to recognize the raid adapter.
