im new to Flash, sry about the question.

I have a couple of bttns. created a general bttn symbol
can i customize the text that appears on each instance of the symbol, or that's impossible.
Thanks. Avendeval

as long as you do not put the text on the original instance..make the button and convert it to a symbol without the text..use the button as many times as you like, just add the text as needed..

what if i want the colour of the text to change as part of the rollover effect of the bttn?

or can i have a separate 'rule' defining the colour of the text onMouseOver (well its equivalent in actionscript)? and would that be an efficient solution?

id like to make to movie as optimized as possible.

thanks again.

hi

when you double-click your button on the main stage to get into it's timeline, just rick click on the OVER frame and select 'insert keyframe'. This will duplicate the contants of the UP frame. Then all you have to do is chage the oclour of the text in the 'character' toolbox.

As for optimizing, so long as the text in the UP and OVER states is the same, the filesize increase will be very minimal.

i think you miss understood him dave..he wants to have a button and use it multiple times..and to be able to change the text..i told him to create the button without the text and use multiple instances of that button, and just add the text..but now he wants to have the text change on rollover..so with that being the case you would have to make a symbol, just a graphic that looks like the buttons you want..use that symbol(graphic) to house your buttons..the text being the actual buttons that way you could have different colors on rollover..

make sense?

ok, apology accepted guys ;-) (JOKE) Looks like my keyboard batteries ran out during that post huh?

Anyway, Sedai, remember to put a block of colour in your HIT frame, otherwise only the text itself will be the part which actuates the rollover effect.
