I think this is the right place to pose this quetion if it isn't my apologizes
let say I have 5 switch connected in a physical ring via fiber optic cable, now if one part of the ring breaks i.e. fiber optic cable cut, is it the MIB's "job" to say to "open fiber over here" to the whatup/open view server or does the MIB do something else generally speaking ?

You should get snmp trap from the switch that the fiber port is connected to if it is configured correctly.

ok I realize this might be a little/alot ahead but is there a document that talks about how to look at the MIB for the 2960 series ? (to see how it is configured)
