Hey all,

We haven't heard back from our sales rep yet. But when we purchase the BES server with 20 licenses, is this just the software and we need to provide that actual server - or does this include a server as well?

What OS does this run on?

Thanks all,
Chris

Yes, I would expect that no hardware is included, you will be expected to purchase a server or assign one of your current servers (with internet access) to the task.

You should be able to install it on a server already in service, with only 20 users your not going to be thrashing the server. If you can, install it on W2K3, you then need to install the latest BES service pack (unless you get a slipstreamed install of BES) but that's no big deal.

If you never done it before, give yourself the day to install it, it's not difficult but there are a few prerequites that you need to install first and expect a good handful of reboots, and have a blackberry at hand for testing.

For 20 users I would install it on the Exchange server, assuming your users can survive a few reboots

Hope this helps

Our service provider did not offer hardware either.

We installed BES 3.6 for Exchange 2000 on Win2000 with the latest service packs for all these products.

Great info.

Looks like we're in the market for a new server.

Thanks guys!
Chris

Andy,

I see you recommend it to be installed on an exisiting Exchange server? Is there a benefit to this?

To be honest, I don't like installing BES on any exchange server as I like to keep my exchange servers as clean as possible.
But in the case of this thread it's sounds a low key installation and with only 20 users it would be pretty hard to justify spending out on another server.

Normally I install BES onto a DC, we host exchange for a number of clients and always have 2 DC per solution. Putting it on a DC works well for us.
