Hi, I'm experienced with Microsoft technologies but want to try IBM products. I know that I can download trial version of domino 6.5.1 but dont know what exactly to install. With Microsoft, you install IIS and Visual Studio or .Net and your ready to develop. Can someone tell me what package to download from IBM . Should I first install Domino 6.5 server then Notes/Designer/Administrator 6.5 clients. Does configuring the server a pain ? Thank's for your help.

You will need a server, and you will a Client and a Designer client to develop.
As you are a beginner, let me tell you that developing Notes applications is an entirely different experience. Forget Access or any relational database system you might be aware of. Notes is not relational.
Notes is a document-centric database system. All the info of a record is contained in that record. If you want a field to point to a table, it is up to you to build the table and the code for pointing too.
You should check out places like DominoPro, or even the IBM site directly.
Also, and most importantly, read everything you can in the Designer Help database (installed with the Designer client). It is really useful and rather well written for beginners (except for the code examples in some cases).

Good luck,

Pascal.

Thank's pmonett.
If I understand you corectly, I can not install all the software (server and development tools)on the same computer?

In a professional environment, it is not recommended to do so.
However, I understand that you are doing this "on the side", for learning purposes.
In such a case, there is no issue with putting the server, the client and the designer on the same machine. Throw in the admin client too while you're at it ;-).
That way, from time to time this will demonstrate quite clearly why you should not do it for mission-critical servers.

Pascal.
