Hello,

Just last night, I downloaded suse linux 9.3 pro and installed on computer sharing windows 98se. Installation went smooth. System was restarted and I have got 4 options when I boot - Linux, Windows, Floppy and Linux (failsafe).

If I goto linux (not the failsafe option) it shows doing so many thing by displaying done, done and done etc. and after network is setup (shows 127.0.0.1/8) and then screen goes blank for moment and then nothing comes up. And Monitor dies (kind of no feed coming in to monitor).

I tried Linux - fail safe option and I could log in. Windows option works fine.

This is my time using linux and have not idea what is happening? Is it something to do Video Card?

When I installed linux, it prompted me to run /abin/lilo prior to rebooting machine if machine is using lilo. I wasn't aware of any such option and did not run that command.

Machine is Pentium 4, 300 mhz (I guess) around 256 MB ram.

I am First time Linux user, let me know if I am not clear enough in explaining. Any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

This sounds to me like you may have X configured at too high a resolution for your monitor.
To test, wait until you get the blank screen and then try cycling round the resolutions with Ctrl-Alt-Num+ (Control, Alt and plus sign on numeric keypad).
If you can switch to a visible screen mode with that then you just need to reconfigure the default resolution.

Trojan.

Thanks a lot! I can see someting now, screen at one mode seems like 800x600 kind of display, another seems higher but monitor quits at higher.
Will try playing with 800x600
