newbie, problem saving as tif

i am having a problem only sometimes saving a photo as a tif, i dont know what is causing this, but i may be working with a photo & i save it at different times as a tif, then all of the sudden when i go to save it again it only lets me save as photoshop doc. usually if i re-start my computer a few times this sometimes helps, or generally i might have to start all over again from scratch & re-scan & everything to get it to work.

any help will be greatly appreciated

Is the pic you're trying indexed color, if so try changing it to RGB.
inage > mode > rgb

Do you mean when you 'save'[ctrl+s] or 'save as'[shift+ctrl+s]?

If 'save', how does it only allow you to save as a *.tif(IE: will it allow you to select other file types in the second drop down menu - is the *.tif format missing)?


Moe: It could have been a real ugly situation, but luckily I managed to shoot him in the spine.

i usually use the "save as", & in the drop down box there is only available the photoshop *PSD *PDD, nothing else at all avail. i am not sure but i think maybe i found the problem, i started all over again & when i brought in another layer (tiff clipart), i then forgot to "flatten" the layers together before saving & once i did that it seemed to work ?? i am not sure if that was the problem ?? the other times, but i will have to try it again & see.

You don't mention what vs of Photoshop, but if you have an older version and are saving as tiff and have layers, it won't work. PS7 and CS will allow you to have multiple layers in TIF format.

When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
