Newbie - Parsing file with scripting

I have a file that is supplied regularly by a piece of software to be sent to another group. The file is supposed to have a record length of 57. For some reason the file does not break to the next line after the length of 57. Instead, it just stretches and wraps on forever.
I am a newbie to scripting and know next to nothing about it. Does anyone out there know a script that would parse this file into a record length of 57?
