Hi all,

I need to have a database for my home-based business (which I haven't started yet but soon will). I need to know how to use Paradox 9 - are there any really good websites or how-to books for this?

Furthermore, is Access supposed to be better? What about Filemaker Pro - can someone give a quick rundown on the adv/disadvantages on these systems compared to Paradox?

This all depends on what you want the databases to do for your business.

I have used Filemaker Pro and Paradox extensively. Finally I have decided that Paradox is the overall best. Reports is where FMPRO falls down, I find it too fiddly to create reports and also Paradox is far easier to work with.

Also, as complexity increases, file sizes become huge with FMPRO. One other big advantage of Paradox is that the data is SEPERATE from the forms, reports and so forth. FMPRO lumps data and layouts together, which I never liked.

Access is Microsoft, and as I tend to avoid products from them, I would say that with Paradox you will not go far wrong for all of your database needs.

Terry_1,

I like Paradox. Of course, I've been "involved" with it in a variety of ways over the last ten years. FMPro, Access, Approach each can score points in various areas, but I think Paradox is the best over all.

Your mileage may vary.

Also, since someone mentioned Denn Santuro's site, I have to mention my own site:

It's a collection of Paradox related articles, tutorials, and samples. Oh, yeah. There's a few other articles, too. ;-)
