The Cisco AP offers various schemes for encyryption, but most of them are supported only on Cisco clients. If you have a mix of Cisco and non-Cisco clients than do not use any of the *EAP authentication schemes.

Hi bcastner, thanks for your advice. I have read the Authentication type and there are 3 types.

1)EAP
2)PEAP
3)LEAP

Btw, I'm using all Cisco Wireless Products and pls advice which Authentication should I used.
And there are also three typ of Encyption which are Open,Shared Key and Network-EAP.

Pls advice and thanks in advance.

I would have to guess, but you do not.

My guess would be LEAP with an Open Key. Grab any of the machines and check its settings. Write them down, as it is confusing.

Then go back to the AP and set it exactly the same.

Then go back to any machine that cannot connect, and make it exactly the same as the first client and the AP above.

Hi cbastner, sorry that I'm also confuse for what I'm doing.

I did not use the EAP and only set the Encryption(WEP).
At AP i have set the Encryption, Open and Shared Key. And for Client I'm using WinXP built-in Wirelss Application. In its encryption bits, it has only 40bits and 104bits.

I have tried to use the Cisco Wireless Card and it able to grap the IP address from my DHCP Server but no the WinXP Built-in Wireless Application

And in my AP,the encryption is 128bits. Any idea if the WinXP encryption is different with the AP encryption.

Pls advice and Thanks in advance.

The XP screen is confusing you.

XP appears to offer only 40 or 104 bits, but the latter translates to your CISCO AP 128 bits.

The two are actually the same, just expressed differently. You'll notice that the number of digits typed into the key field on the CISCO correspond to the number of digits shown by XP for 13 characters.

Best.

bcastner, thanks for your advice.

But till now, I'm still facing problem to grap IP address from the DHCP if I'm using the WinXP built-in Wireless Application with or without Encyption. But if I use the Cisco Wireless Card, it work.

Really no idea where is the problem lies.

Pls do advice and million of thanks in advance.

Use the CISCO client for Windows XP, not the Wireless Zero Configuration client of XP.

. Make sure the prefix is the same between router and client, the default is a short prefix

. Use the CISCO client to set channel, WEP and SSID, as well as authentication.

. For the XP Wireless client, the only thing you must make sure of is that you uncheck under Advanced to disable 802.1x authentication.
