Hello,
I am new to fiber, and I have a project where I have to send an ethernet signal between two PLCs 1000' apart, so I am using a ethernet to fiber converter to handle the distance. I have gotten three prices on the fiber, converters, and the termination kit. And the three prices are approximately: $1,100, $2,200, and $4,400. A perfect geometric progression. I would like to know from someone who has done this before which of these prices is close to what should be expected. And, can you recommend a system to meet my needs?

thanks
AG

1000 feet is about 300 meters. So multimode fiber should be fine.

PLC often have a low data rate, 'my' SCADA gear was at 9600 baud before we went IP. So I am assuming you do not need 10 gig pipes

10baseFL 2km
100baseFX 2km
1000baseSX 550 meters
10GbaseLX4 300 meters

You want 50/125 nm OM3 multimode fiber with SC jacks* on the ends. I would install them in 19 inch racks in a fiber patch panel, but if there really are only two you may cheap out there.

I have no guess as to labor costs, my fiber installs were in the 90s at a remote desert location, so my guesses would be wrong.

As far as the electronics:

If I had to guess, 100baseFX is what you want.
is $69, you need two.

1000baseSX is only a bit more.
is $159, you need two.

*unless your PLCs use some other connector, then use that.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
