I've only been working with Access for about 1 month, I can write a simple query, however, I would like to have somemore understanding. Would someone be so kind to explain to me about the following characters in a query: ([ ' # when and why they are used?

Thanks in advance

Kathy

Square brackets would be used if a table or a field name consists of two or more words separated by a space. As an example, say you have a table called My Vendors and a field in that table called Vendor Name. In a query (SQL view), it would look like this - [My Vendors].[Vendor Name]. if there was no space in the names, then it would look like this - MyVendors.VendorName.

The single quote can be used in place of double quotes around a string.

The hash mark lets Access know that the characters bounded by them are a date - #12/25/2002#.

Thank you so much Bob, I really appreciate your helping me. This gives me more understanding.

Thanks,
Kathy
