Thanks in advance for any help you can give me! We are running Sharepoint on our SBS server and it's been pretty straight forward, until now!

We would like to add a link to use a program on our Server (it's a "look up" parts book), but for the life of me, I cannot put anything in the URL that opens the program.

Is this possible or am I taxing what little brain power for nothing? Thanks again...

Hello,

Have you tried with the pageviewer webpart that comes with SharePoint? However I am not sure that you can actually have it to start a program (or executable) atleast not without having programming skills...which I dont have.

With the pageviewer webpart you can point sharepoint to an URL, folder on another location it is using the IFRAME technique.

Regards,
Thomas

i am guessing that executing a program is made very difficult (i have not tried it). because opening a executable trough script or anything else that is opened in a browser is a potential risk as if you can do it so can a person that has "bad" intentions...

I have done this for a Access datafile and you should be able to do the same for the program.

Go into documents and lists and click on create and create a links list if you do not have one all ready.

In the list create a new item and in the link filed copy the exe location IE
Code:
 \\server\program folder\program.exe
Sharepoint should accept that entry and if it dosn't use this
Code:
 file:////server/program folder/program.exe

Now when you click on the hyperlink it will run the program.

(Granted the users have been able to run the program when they browse to the network location)
